Virtue

Lately I read about a devoted couple & their life was more like a picnic that never came to an end. I might have shared that entire passage about how devoted & sincere they were but it just that they were not all that devoted, to begin with. 1st of all while I was reading it, I couldn’t come up with names of devoted couples in real life. It doesn’t mean all the people I know are cheating on their spouses but in most cases, one is sincere, the other is having flings or affairs or just a bit of fun. Most of the marriages are nothing but businesses.

Anyway, this woman falls for a much younger man & later on her husband commits suicide. While he was in town, she didn’t sleep with him, cause her virtue was more important than anything. When he goes away, she leaves her husband, who just couldn’t take it. As usual the young man is also not keen on her anymore. It would have been better if she had a proper affair rather than sticking to her god-damn virtue which killed her husband.

One of the characters very rightly said, ‘A virtue that only causes havoc & unhappiness is worth nothing. You can call it virtue if you like. I call it cowardice.’

Even in real life, I’ve seen that some people put too much stress on virtue. They have no problem in calling others corrupt or having loose characters, but even while going out with someone, they are too noble in all their cheapness.
